        Pierre Gabriel Berthault (1737-1831) after Charles-François Mandar A view of the Champ de Mars, Paris, on 14th July 1790, etching and aquatint with margins, plate size 33 x 47cm Depicted is the military review and celebration on the first anniversary of the storming of the Bastille. The viewpoint is from where the Eiffel Tower now stands and, at the far end of the arena, where the Ecole Militaire now stands; the twin towers and spire of Notre Dame cathedral can be seen to the left. The print is dedicated to M. Charon, the then President of the Paris Commune which was only to last until 1795.
