    The Property of a Connoisseur, London WILLIAM ROXBY BEVERLY (BRITISH 1811–1889) Half timbered farm house with figures  Signed W R Beverly (lower right)  and inscribed Presented to Mrs Eldridge (lower left) Watercolour heightened with white 28 x 46cm (11 x 18in) Provenance:  Mrs Eldridge (acquired from the artist)  Born in Richmond, Surrey into a theatrical family, Beverly was involved with the stage from an early age. From 1853 he was the scenic director at Covent Garden and also worked at Drury Lane. He was a friend and pupil of William Clarkson Stanfield and exhibited marine watercolours at the RA from 1853.

A few pale stains and some tiny scratches to the right side otherwise good condition. Genre scene representing monks and soldiers in a monastery. W.R. Beverly or Beverley (c. 1810-1889) was an English theatrical scene painter, also known as an artist in oils and watercolour.
