Beyle, Pierre-Marie: Landschaft mit römischem Aquädukt

Landschaft mit römischem Aquädukt. -- Öl auf Leinwand. 30 x 61 cm. Unten links signiert und datiert "P. M. Beyle 1877". -- -- Pierre-Marie Beyle ging in den 1860er Jahren zum Studium nach Paris und etablierte sich dort ab 1865 vorerst als Illustrator und Karikaturist für verschiedene Zeitschriften. Außerdem schuf er unter anderem Illustrationen für die Werke Jules Vernes. Im Jahre 1867 nahm er erstmals mit Gemälden am Pariser Salon teil und stellte von da an regelmäßig bis kurz vor seinem Tod aus. Dort erhielt er unter anderem in den Jahren 1880 und 1881 mehrere Auszeichnungen und wurde zu einer festen Größe der feinen Pariser Gesellschaft. Es folgten zahlreiche Ausstellungen im Ausland, unter anderem in London (1881) und Glasgow (1900). Nachdem seine Motive zu Beginn seiner Karriere eher genrehaft waren, widmete er sich später zunehmend Landschaften und sozialrealistischen Motiven. Im Jahre 1877-1878 reiste er nach Algerien und nahm dabei vermutlich die Route über Italien, wo er auch das Motiv für das vorliegende Gemälde gefunden haben wird. -- -- - Wir bitten darum, Zustandsberichte zu den Losen zu erfragen, da der Erhaltungszustand nur in Ausnahmefällen im Katalog angegeben ist. -- - Please ask for condition reports for individual lots, as the condition is usually not mentioned in the catalogue.
