Bittorf verso sketch of a landscape Provenance: Historia auction house Berlin 2018, European private collection ESTIMATE °€ 1.500 - 2.000 German painter of the 20th century. Representative of Classical Modernism. Studied at the Städelschule in Frankfurt under Peter Rasmussen and Max Beckmann. From 1935 worked in his own studio in Berlin. Early influences of Impressionism, then mainly impulses of Expressionism and New Objectivity. Created mainly landscapes and still lifes and portraits of figures in muted, restrained colors. His involvement with the works of Paul Cezanne can be seen above all in his still lifes and landscapes. Wilhelm Bittorf from Offenbach in Hesse studied at the Städel in Frankfurt at Mein with Rassmussen and Max Beckmann. He later worked in Berlin, where he maintained a studio on Gneisenaustrasse in Kreuzberg.
