Artist William Blackman was born in California in 1930, and completed his first oil painting around the age of 12. He would not move forward as a painter until much later in life, first spending time as a graphic artist. He began painting steadily by the mid 1960s, setting up shop in California. Trips to Hawaii eventually inspired oil painter William Blackman to produce deeply colored land and seascapes. He was later employed by the United States National Art Gallery.

In 1980, artist William Blackman started teaching in private studios, showing burgeoning young artists his techniques.
