    CANDIDE BLAIZE Nancy 1795 - 1855 Paris Junge Dame in Biedermeiergewand, daneben ein Fliederzweig. Stellenweise in Deckweiß gehöhtes Aquarell 1831. Signiert und datiert. Auf chamoisfarbenem Vélin. 13 x 11 cm. Auf Unterlage montiert. Schwach fleckig. Besonders in der Kleidung und der Haartracht der Dargestellten fein ausgeführte Zeichnung. [bg]

    Candide BLAIZE (1795-1855). Ecole française. « Simon Brière de Mondetour (1784-1854) Auditeur au conseil d’état sous l’Empire, époux de Mademoiselle l’Héritier de BRUTELLE » Fin dessin au crayon noir en buste, daté 1825. Encadré sous verre. 12,5 x 9 cm. B.E. Biographies : Simon Brière de Mondétour (1784-1854) était le fils de Isidore Simon, maire du IIe arrondissement de Paris, député de la Seine. Le père avait été fait chevalier de l’Empire en 1808. Candide Blaize. Peintre de portraits et de miniatures, le lorrain Candide Blaize né à Nancy en 1795, il meurt à Paris vers 1855. Il fit l’essentiel de sa carrière à Paris. Il y exposa au Salon de 1822 à 1846, et obtint, en 1836 une médaille de troisième classe. Il habitait chez le comte d’Hertford et eut une clientèle très lancée, notamment George Sand et son fils (musée de la vie Romantique). Candide Blaize fut très influencé par Isabey dont il adopta le style avant de s’émanciper de ce maître ; il réussissait très bien les portraits d’enfants. (Biographie de Nathalie Lemoine-Bouchard)

Other Notes: Probably a portrait of John Izard Middleton (ca. 1800- 1877). He was the son of South Carolina Governor Henry Middleton (1770-1846). John Izard was a signer of the Ordinance of the Secession and also the Speaker of the House of Representatives in South Carolina.
