            Max Blondat (1872-1925)'Bébé au Maillot' Mascot, lost-wax cast in silvered bronze with the stamp M.B of Max Blondat and that of the foundry 'C.Valsuani, cire perdue', circa 1925. 12,5 cm Max Blondat, the French sculptor (1872-1925), studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1892, where he discovered Art Nouveau and the Decorative arts in which he excelled. In 1906 he became one of the founding members of the Society of French Decorative Arts. He participated in the First World War and was awarded the Croix de Guerre in 1916. He died in Paris in 1925. Blondat worked in wood, stone, terracotta, glass and bronze. He specialised in the creation of small-scale pieces such as automobile radiator caps.

            MAX BLONDAT (Crain, Burgundy, 1872 - Paris, 1925). Paperweight. Paste glass. Presents reintegration. Signed. Measurements: 9 x 14 x 11 cm. Max Blondat was an Art Nouveau and Art Deco sculptor trained at the École Germain-Pilon in Paris. In 1890 he exhibited a plaster medallion at the Salon des Artistes Français. He later perfected his technique in the workshop of Mathurin Moreau. In 1892, he entered the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris, signing his first works with his mother's name Henry. He also produced ceramics with Edmond Lachenal the Sèvres factory or wrought iron works with Edgar Brandt. He worked with the Siot-Decauville foundries and the Valsuani foundry. He also created jewelry for Chambon and Hermès. In 1906, he was a founding member of the French Decorative Art Society. A part of his works is exhibited in the Museum of the Thirties in Boulogne-Billancourt. One of his most famous creations is the fountain of the Jeunesse (youth), representing three children watching three frogs. Presents reintegration.

This is a sculpture resolved in a vivid realistic language, representing a girl on her feast day. The young girl holds a large bouquet of roses in her hands, while she reads an open leaf, previously folded in four parts according to the traces of the folds. Il représente les amours d'Apulée transformé en âne, avec une femme, la scène se déroule au sommet d'un temple à colonnes à l'intérieur duquel est niché un amour accroupi. Signée Max BLONDAT sur la base, porte les inscriptions 15e dîner Moulin à sel. Dim.52 x 25 cm. Max Blondat a réalisé ce modèle à l'occasion du 15e dîner de l Association du Moulin à sel, réunion issue de l Académie des Anes fondée au XVIIe siècle : tous les présidés participant au repas sont des ânes, il est probable que le motif ait été imaginé pour cet évènement.
