Die Zerbrochene Schiefertafel . Approx. 25 1/2" x 37 1/2" We have found an auction record for this painting twice sold previously and last sold in 2004 however this is not the same painting. Careful examination shows some very minordifferences and the date on this painting is clearly 1867 not 1866 as is on the other painting. This painting has hung and been in the possesion of the same person for at least 50 years and possibly more. This leads me to the conclusionthat the artist redid this painting one year later either to improve on his work or as a commission for someone. wonderful work of Art with some crackling in two small areas. Signed lower right and dated 1867.
