Hans Böttcher, Folder With Four Watercolors, Germany, 1970s

      Est: €400 - €500

4 watercolors on various sorts of paper Germany, 1970s Hans Böttcher (1897-1986) – German painter and graphic artist, participant in the ‘Berliner Kulturkollektiv’ 3x signed in pencil ‘Hans Böttcher’, 2x also dated ‘76’, 3x titled in pencil on the passe-partouts ‘Aquarium’, ‘Lehrerin’ and ‘Komposition’ Mounted Image dimensions: 12 x 18.6 cm, 16.5 x 123 cm, 17 x 10.5 cm, 18 x 13.2 cm Good condition This folder encloses four expressionistic watercolors by German artist Hans Böttcher. They were presumably made around the 1970s. Depicted are in bright colors four different abstracted scenes. Thereby, ‘Aquarium’ [Fish tank], ‘Lehrerin’ [Schoolmistress] and the untiled watercolor are executed in a similar style with blurry diluted lines, whereas ‘Komposition’ [Composition] shows sharper pronounced lines. Three watercolors are signed in pencil ‘Hans Böttcher’, two of those are also dated ‘76’. Furthermore, three pieces are titled in pencil on the passe-partouts ‘Aquarium’, ‘Lehrerin’ and ‘Komposition’. The works are in a good condition with minor sings of age and wear. More heavily affected are the mounts, which are toned and bear foxing. The image dimensions are 12 x 18.6 cm (sheet filling), 16.5 x 123 cm, 17 x 10.5 cm, 18 x 13.2 cm, while the remaining sheet dimensions measure 24.9 x 18 cm, 19 x 12.2 cm und 24.9 x 16 cm. The passe-partouts measure 42 x 29.8 cm. Hans Böttcher (1897-1986) Hans Böttcher was born in Berlin in 1897. He taught himself as a painter and was traveling through France and Brazil, after that he worked as a freelance artist in Berlin. His early works were stylistically committed to the late Expressionism. During the war Böttcher was forbidden to paint, many of his works were destroyed. After 1945, his style developed further and further towards abstraction, influenced by the informalism. In addition, he worked with the ‘Berliner Kulturkollektiv’, in which Max Pechstein and Otto Mueller also participated. Hans Böttcher, Two Abstract Watercolors, Germany, c. 1963

      Est: €480 - €600

2 watercolors on paper, one also with ink (1x water mark of Hahnemühle Fine Art GmbH) Germany, around 1963 Hans Böttcher (1897-1986) – German painter and graphic artist, participant in the ‘Berliner Kulturkollektiv’ Sheets signed and dated (1x illegible) below the image in pencil ‘Hans Böttcher 63/[?]’, 1x illegible dry stamp, 1x titled ‘Farbkomposition 1’ Image dimensions: 32 x 41 cm, 18.2 x 24 cm The influence of Informalism, to which German artist Hans Böttcher devoted himself from approx. 1945 onwards, are clearly evident in those two works. Characteristical for this art movement, non-geometric, non-figurative color fields and dabs are shown on these depictions. For the larger-scale work, Böttcher uses ink as means of design as well as his fingertips for the application of the paint. Due to the dilution of the colors, the planes blur and thus a continuous tense interplay between the dissolution and the becoming of forms is being established. The larger work is signed and dated in pencil below the image ‘Hans Böttcher 63’ as well as fitted with an illegible dry stamp. The smaller scale watercolor is also signed in pencil below the image ‘Hans Böttcher’ as well as illegible dated and titled ‘Farbkomposition 1’. The works bear heavy signs of age and wear. The sheets are corrugated and show handling creases. Furthermore the upper edges of both pieces are torn with cracks of 3-4 cm in length. The image dimensions are 32 x 41 cm, 18.2 x 24 cm, while the remaining sheet dimensions measure 45 x 62.4 cm and 48.7 x 62.3 cm. Hans Böttcher (1897-1986) Hans Böttcher was born in Berlin in 1897. Böttcher, Hans: Abstrakte Komposition Abstrakte Komposition. Öl auf leichtem Karton. 44,9 x 62,6 cm. Unten rechts signiert und datiert. (19)76.
