      NIKOLAI GRIGORIEVICH BOGDANOFF (RUSSIAN 1850-1892) Young Woman on a Summer Day, circa 1882-84 oil on panel 28 x 18.5 cm (11 1/4 x 7 1/4 in.) signed lower right LOT NOTES Nikolai Bogdanoff was born and lived in St. Petersburg, where he studied at the Imperial Academy of the Arts from 1870-1879. A frequent winner of prizes for his works, at the Academy he was awarded Silver medals in 1874 and 1879. In 1879, Bogdanoff achieved the artistic rank of Classical Artist, 3rd Degree. In 1882 he became officially known as Classical Artist of the First Rank, and received a stipend from the Academy to study in Rome and Paris from 1882-1884, when the current painting was most likely painted. A participant in the Peredvizhniki exhibition of 1880, Bogdanoff passed away in Kiev at the early age of 42.
