Condition B+: extensive expert overpainting and minor restoration in margins; repaired tears, minor creases and abrasions along vertical and horizontal folds; slight foxing in image. Mario Borgoni became the artistic director of Richter & Sons in 1905. The printing company's persistent salesmen traveled around Europe and the Middle East convincing local hotels to use their services. Borgoni's own poster design career brought forth stunning views of Italy, Greece and Egypt in his inimitable Italian Liberty style.

Capri Italia is a late 1920's poster created by Mario Borgoni, for ENIT, the Italian National Tourism Agency. Founded in 1919, ENIT sponsored many beautiful travel poster advertisements throughout the 20th century, all with their signature ENIT logo stamp. Borgoni created many posters for ENIT in the 1920's &1930's that typify the traditional travel poster style of the time. In this image Mario Borgoni (1869-1936) displays the splendor of Capri with a view from high up in the island of Capri looking down toward the Mediterranean . The artist may have used the Villa San Michele as his location for this image. Borgoni was both a painter and an illustrator who created many Italian travel posters for very well known destinations. His work is highly admired for his colorful depiction of these poster sites. This is an Original Vintage Poster; it is not a reproduction. This poster is conservation mounted, linen backed and in excellent condition. We guarantee the authenticity of all of our posters.

ARTIST: MARIO BORGONI (1869-1936) SIZE: 55 3/4 x 38 1/2 in./141.7 x 98 cm PRINTER: Richter & C., Napoli DESCRIPTION: After attending Naples’ Institute of Fine Arts, Borgoni dedicated himself to lithographic production, collaborating with the Richter firm to create a remarkable number of posters. Working in many styles yet specializing in tourism posters, Borgoni frequently used the feminine figure to lure the viewer’s eyes to his designs. Another element to be found in his works is the use of a frame to open a window onto voluptuous landscapes. This is precisely the approach he takes to promote the Italian State Railway’s Pullman service from Vienna to Palermo and every stop in between. It’s certainly nice to know the train’s schedule, which is displayed at lower right, but all the knowledge in the world doesn’t hold a tourism candle to the buxom gypsy at center or the spectacular Italian panorama laid out just beyond her.
