Borimann, Dez 51’ Large size watercolour with idyllic scenery Overall diemnsions, framed: 58 x 77 cm Good condition Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 500 EUR This large size watercolour by Austrian painter Karl Borimann illustrates a scenery on the central plaza of the city Mürzzuschlag in Styria in the winter of 1951. People are strolling over the square with a pavilion in the centre that is flanked by trees. The plaza is covered by a light purple shining sky that bathes the image into a atmospheric light. The watercolour is titled, signed and dated lower left ‘Mürzzuschlag, Hauptplatz. Borimann, Dez 51’. It is in a good condition showing only minor signs of age and wear. The sheet is slightly corrugated and has tiny holes in the corners. It is illegibly inscribe with pencil on the back. The frame shows slight traces of use as well. The sheet measures 51 x 70 cm. The framed dimensions are 58 x 77 cm. Karl Borimann (1903-1969) The Austrian visited the Higher State Crafts School in Vienna and graduated in 1922 with an engineering degree. He became director of the vocational school and after he had taken early retirement, he attended the School of Graphic Arts and Research Institute in Vienna. He was a self-taught painter; his works mainly inspired by the impressionist landscape, whereby he focused on motifs from the Vienna Woods and the Waldviertel. He worked in watercolor, oil, chalk and pen and also produced drawings and lithographs. Borimann's works are for example exhibited in the Vienna’s Albertina.
