Inscribed by the photographer - A head and shoulders photographic print of the late Queen Elizabeth II, taken at Buckingham Palace. The Queen is photographed against a gold background and wears a three-strand pearl necklace, a diamond star brooch and blue dress suit, inscribed and dated in pencil by Polly Borland on reverse, ‘ Darling Anne, Thank you so much for being so Wonderful! All My Love Polly Borland XOXO, Polly Borland 2009’ , 21 ¾ x 26 inches overall, framed and glazed. To celebrate Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee in 2002, ten photographers from across the Commonwealth were invited to create a portfolio of new portraits of the monarch. Each photographer was granted a single setting of no longer than five minutes. Melbourne-born Polly Borland’s skill has been described as capturing that split-second moment when the sitter has dropped their guard and softened their face. Borland said, ‘I wanted a more modern take … something a bit pop art. I asked for the Queen to dress in her crown, with all the glitter and gold. When that wasn’t possible, I decided I’d take my own gold background.’Provenance: Commissioned by Queen Elizabeth II for the Golden Jubilee, 2002. Exhibited at The National Portrait Gallery. Inscribed by the photographer in person for music executive overall good condition with strong inscription and signature.

Spiral bound, lettered plastic boards. Celebrated Australian photographer, Polly Borland is famous for her experimental, stylised, and occasionally unsettling portrait images. This exhibition catalogue is from her survey show at UQ Art Museum (University of Queensland), the first to bring together the various diverse threads of her practice. Curated by Alison Kubler, it includes portraits of famous faces such as Cate Blanchett, Nick Cave and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, and the series Australians, The Babies, Bunny and Smudge, and the most recent series, Pupa. "Borland, who draws inspiration from Diane Arbus, carefully directs the costumes, makeup, and poses of her models, creating scenes that are intimate and dystrophic." This copy is signed by Borland. Fine Condition.
