        JENO BORY ( 1879- 1959). "Vagyakozás", 1924. Terracotta. Signed. Measurements: 22 x 21 x 14 cm. Jeno Bory was a Hungarian architect and sculptor who graduated in Building Engineering in Budapest in 1903. He enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts to study sculpture with Alajos Stróbl. During World War I, as a soldier, he was appointed an official war artist in Sarajevo, for which he received the Order of Franz Joseph. He was a professor at the Academy of Fine Arts (1911-46) and at the Technical University (1921-44). He was rector of the Academy between 1943 and 1945. He was largely responsible for the construction of the so-called Bory Castle in Székesfehérvár, decorated with his and his wife's works.

        Jenö Bory kniender weiblicher Akt signiert und datiert 1910, ungemarkt, dunkelgrauer Scherben mattschwarz bemalt, auf einer ovalen Plinthe kniende junge Frau, das Gesicht in die Sonne gerichtet und die Augen mit den Armen verdeckend, Abplatzer am Sockel, minimale Farbkaschierungen, insgesamt guter altersgemäßer Zustand, H 50 cm.

        Work: ca. 37 x 24,5 cm Frame: 51 x 36,8 cm The reverse with a hard to read stamp, just like the signature (Jeno Bory?; right bottom corner). However, the sculpture fits without doubt in the oeuvre of Bory.

After gaining his degree in architecture he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in order to study sculpture with Alajos Strobl. He was a teacher at the Academy of Fine Arts (1911-1946) and the Technical University (1921-1944), and was also the director of the Academy between 1943 and 1945. He dedicated himself to building the “Bory Castle” in Székesfehérvár over a 41-year period.  Height: 45 cm.
