      JAMES BOSTOCK, RE, SWE (1917-2006) HYDROGEN (BALLOON OVER ST PAUL'S) 1949 wood engraving, a very fine impression on Japanese tissue, signed with initials in the block, 19 x 18cm Bostock's Hydrogen was commissioned by ICI together with Calcium (Limestone Quarry, Buxton) as illustrations for a promotional brochure entitled Elements of an Industry. In the event it was not used, being reproduced only as a line drawing. The present print is one of only five to ten signed proofs. James Bostock was born in the Potteries and studied mural and decorative painting and engraving at the Royal College of Art under Edward Bawden, Eric Ravilious and John and Paul Nash.
