      Frederick James Boston Antique American Impressionist Landscape

      Boston, who was from the New York / Connecticut area, was born in 1855 and passed in 1932. He was the first instructor of art at the Brooklyn Institute of Arts and Sciences, and he became founder and served as president of the Painters and Sculptors Club at the institute. During his career he traveled the Eastern U.S. extensively and was a prolific artist known mostly for his excellent landscape paintings executed with a beautiful Impressionist color palette, like this example being offered. He has extensive auction records with recorded sales for some of his paintings achieving in excess of $20,000.00. This fine oil on canvas (recently professionally cleaned) depicts a country landscape with a farm in the distance and is housed in a golden hand-incised decorated wooden frame. The oil with is mounted on its original stretcher with its original nails and is clearly signed in the lower left - 'F.J. Boston'. Truly a quite fine early American Impressionist work. Measures 25 5/8" wide by x 21 1/4" tall framed and ready to hang.

Finely painted genre scene depicting two fair haired sisters with blue eyes leaning out of a house window and smiling, the window with white frame and flanked by blue shutters with pink roses climbing up the edges of the composition, both girls with soft hair pulled back from their porcelain faces. Framed approximately 35.5" x 31.625", unframed approximately 26" x 22". Provenance: Acquired at James D. Julia, Spectacular Maine Summer Auction, August 25, 2009 from a private collection in southern Maine.
