          Cast and overworked Dolomit marble stone France, 20th century Antique-like bas-relief; deity in profile with a flowing robe and a wreath of flowers in her hair sitting on a step, a garland of flowers on her right shoulder, her left arm stretched back to a water jug ‘Médaille de Paris Exposition universelle de 1889’, inscribed with ‘Veilleux’ and signed with ‘Louis Bottée’ (1852-1940) on the reverse Gilt ornate wooden frame Relief size: 40.5 x 61 cm; frame size: 63 x 84 cm Very good condition The present bas-relief made of Dolomit marble stone depicts a classicizing female beauty in the profile sitting on a step. The portrait delights with the grace of the figure and the harmonious composition. The delicate drape fits closely the body of the sitter. Her hair is decorated with a wreath of flowers, and a garland of flowers is placed on her right shoulder. With her ​​right arm, she stretches out elegantly to a water jug behind her. The gilt wooden frame enhances the relief with elegance and refinement. The relief bears the ‘Médaille de Paris Exposition universelle de 1889’, inscribed with ‘Veilleux’ and signed with ‘Louis Bottée’ on the reverse. It is in very good condition, showing only minor wear. The size of the relief is 40.5 x 61 cm, and the frame measures 63 x 84 cm. Louis-Alexandre Bottée (1852-1940) Born in Paris, the sculptor and modeler Louis-Alexandre Bottée trained as an engraver in a button factory. He then studied at the École des Arts Décoratifs and entered in the workshop of Paulin Tasset in 1869. He completed further studies at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. In 1878, he was awarded with the Prix de Rome. In 1930, Bottée was elected a member of the Académie des Beaux Arts. (cko) Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
