        ITALO GEORGE BOTTI (AMERICAN, 1923-2003) Oil on canvas, signed lower right. Soft, pastel yellows and blues depicting a regatta on the water and featuring boat number 3,2,4, and 23. Brass-tone frame. About the Artist: Italo George Botti, an Italian-American artist and son of Ettore and Filomena Botti, Italian immigrants, was born on March 24, 1923, in Greenwich Village, New York. Attracted to art from an early age, he received a scholarship at the Leonardo da Vinci and Federal School of Art, New York. He furthered his artistic education, by attending the Abracheff School of Art, the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Student League, in New York, studying under Frank Vincent Dumond, Nicolai Abracheff, Reginald Marsh and Bernard Lamott. Mr. Botti fought with the U.S. Army in World War II and was awarded two Bronze Stars and a Purple Heart. In 1946, he returned from Europe, to teach art at the City College of New York and later, the Art Students League, New York and the Art Institute of Chicago. In addition to his teaching career, he created a large body of work, becoming well-known for his paintings, stained glass, sculpture and mosaic work.         George Italo Botti (1923-2003) Horse Race Oil on Canvas. Title created not given. Signed lower right Botti. Painting measures 24 inches high, 30 inches wide. Frame measures 29 inches high, 35 inches wide. Painting was apparently sized to fit frame at some point. In good condition. The late Italo (George) Botti was born in Greenwich Village, New York in 1923. At the age of nine he was awarded a scholarship to the Leonardo da Vinci School of Art. Later, he furthered his studies at the Brooklyn Academy of Fine Arts and the Art Student's League, where he was also an instructor. He worked as a painter, muralist, sculptor, and stained glass artist. Botti served in the Army in World War II, participating in the Normandy Invasion and winning five Bronze Stars. Botti and his wife Ethlyn Panzironi Botti divided their time between Sarasota, Florida, and Evanston, Illinois. Botti Studio’s history in the design and execution of ecclesiastical and lay stained glass windows traces back four generations in the Panzironi family. Italo Botti likened his abstract expressionist style to jazz music
