      Bronze, dark brown patina France, 19th century Alfred Boucher (1850-1934) - French sculptor, student of Antoine Dumont and Paul Dubois With engraved signature on the plinth ‘A. Boucher’ and foundry stamp ‘F. Barbedienne Fondeur’ Height: 55 cm Good Condition Naturalistic representation of a workman “Le terassier” digging with his spade Alfred Boucher put special emphasis on the modulation of the surface, which is enforced by working out the definition of muscles of this character. Condition: The bronze is in good overall condition. Few barely visible nicks on the base, otherwise overall of very good impression. The height measures 55 cm. Alfred Boucher (1850-1934) Alfred Boucher studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts under Antoine Dumont and Paul Dubois. In 1874 he exhibited for the first time at the Paris Salon. In 1876 and 77 he was awarded the Rome Prize, followed by an extended trip to Rome. A scholarship enabled him a trip to Florence in in the 1880s. At the World's Fair in 1900 Boucher was awarded the Grand Prix. Shipping costs excl. statutory VAT and plus 2,5% (+VAT) shipping insurance.
