Condition B+: expertly-repaired tears and overpainting in margins, minor creases and restoration in image; repaired pin holes in corners. This map takes us a step further from earth, into the night sky; Boucher designed another celestial planisphere in 1938. It was printed in a few different years, with the reference number in the bottom left corner. This print is dated 1950, while others are dated 1951 (small format) and 1953. Air France p. 92-93.

This excellent poster was created by Lucien Boucher to promote their newest plane in their fleet, the Lockheed Super Constellation. This new plane had unheard-of refinements, such as air conditioning, reclining seats, and extra lavatories. It was a plane ahead of its time, at least twice as fuel efficient as the industry's first jets and as efficient as many of today's modern aircraft. Boucher has provided here a detailed illustration of not just the plane, but placed it atop an intricate map of all the global destinations Air France traveled to. Air France was formed in 1933 through a merger of several smaller international companies. Lucien Boucher (1889-1971) was a French graphic designer and illustrator most known to collectors for his many beautiful Air France travel posters.Boucher got his start as a cartoonist for the French humor magazine, Le Rire before moving into product and cinema poster design. He experimented in Surrealism, as well as Art Deco in his early advertising. Paper. Air France was formed in 1933 after a merger between Air Orient and a number of other French airlines. Adopting the winged seahorse logo that had belonged to Air Orient, Air France absorbed the former airline's routes through Asia. Boucher designed two posters promoting the Airline's routes to and through the Orient. They are unique in the series of Air France posters as, like a Chinese enameled box, they are each lacquered -- further adding to their graphic exoticism. Air France p. 23, Huhne p. 257.

This gorgeous pictorial map of northwestern Africa was designed by Lucien Boucher for French bank Credit Lyonnais. Published around the end of World War II, the map presents an idyllic view of French colonial holdings in Africa at a crucial moment between Free France and decolonization. The map spans from Tunis to the mouth of the Congo, with charming illustrations of the architecture, peoples, resources, and wild life of the region filling the landscape. Main branches of the bank are located in several cities, including Tunis, Algiers, Casablanca, Dakar, Conakry, Lome, Douala, and Pointe-Noire. One overseas branch is shown in Lisbon, while sub-branches are identified throughout the Maghreb with little white stars. Much of the interior is dominated by a huge title cartouche/bank advertisement, which emphasizes the exports of the region. Ships and sea creatures fill the waters. The composition also features a large ornate compass rose. Printed in Paris by Perceval. Boucher (1889-1971) was a French commercial artist inspired by the Surrealists. He found regular work designing movie posters and other advertisements, but he is best known for his series of posters for Air France. LITERATURE: Rumsey #8464.
