(2) Pierre Bouillon intaglio prints titled, "Venus Genitrix", "Venus Victorieuse", circa early 1800's. Pierre Bouillon (1776-1831) is a French painter and engraver. These prints come from a large folio publication, Le MusÈe des Antiques, containing copper plate engravings from his studies of classical Greek and Roman statues at the Louvre Museum. Bouillon published three of these folios dating from 1811-1827. Both roughly 13x20 in.

First and only edition of this monumental publication on classical sculpture. The first volume is devoted to classical deities, the second to mythological and historical Greek and Roman personages, and the last on altars, vases, candelabra, tombs, ornaments, inscriptions, etc. A very good, untrimmed copy. Brunet I, 1170 ('ce bel ouvrage se recommande par l'exactitude scrupuleuse des dessins'); Graesse I, 510; Blackmer 181. 3 volumes, folio (544 x 350mm). Half-title to the whole work in vol. 1, half-titles for each vol, each volume title with large engraved vignette, 276 engraved plates, vol. 1 with engraved headpiece and large cul-delamp 'Fragments du Parthénon' (tiny marginal tear to plate of Alexander the Great in vol. 2, occasional light spotting, one or two plates slightly more heavily affected). Contemporary red half morocco over red cartonnage boards, flat spine ruled and lettered in gilt (extremities lightly rubbed). Two (2) works on paper depicting historical figures, including French King Louis XVIII and President Abraham Lincoln. 1st item: Steel plate engraving titled "Louis XVIII, Roi de France & de Navarre" drawn and engraved by Pierre Bouillon (1776-1831), published by Chez Bance, Paris. Depicting a bust portrait of Louis XVIII wearing a military uniform. Ink inscriptions in French and English text above and below plate marks. Housed under glass in a black wooden frame with faux wooden venner and gilt wood rabbet edge. Plate - 13" H x 10" W. Sight - 15 1/2" H x11 1/2" W. Framed - 19" H x 15" W. Note: Louis XVIII (1755-1824), known as "the Desired" was King of France from 1814 to 1824, except for a period in 1815 known as the Hundred Days. He spent twenty-three years in exile, from 1791 to 1814, during the French Revolution and the First French Empire, and again in 1815, during the period of the Hundred Days, upon the return of Napoleon I from Elba. 2nd item: Otto J. Schneider (Illinois, 1875-1946) limited edition etching on paper depicting the Abraham Lincoln: The Man statue in the Lincoln Park in Chicago, IL by Augustus Saint-Gaudens (New York/New Hampshire/Massachusetts/France, 1848-1907). Signed "Schneider" in pencil lower right. Published by the Chicago Society of Etchers Club, Chicago, 1927. Matted and housed under glass in a black wooden frame with gilt silver trim. Plate - 11 1/2" H x 6 3/8" W. Sight - 12 1/4" H x 7 1/8" W. Framed - 18 7/8" H x 12 5/8" W. Early 20th century. Provenance: The Estate of Mrs. Frank Wood, Evansville, Indiana and Dickson, Tennessee.
