      "An Anxious Moment Salmon Fishing", handcolored litho, in the manner of 18th c. British sporting prints, pencil signed and numbered 11/250, published 1937 by the Derrydale Press, New York. Inscribed "A salute to Sherb Prescott, and a happy day at River Hill, Ralph L. Boyer." In mahogany frame with gold liner, under glass, OS: 21 1/2" x 27 1/2", impression: 14 3/4" x 20 1/2", rippled, foxed. Sherburne Prescott (1887-1967) was a Broker on the New York and American Stock Exchange, lived in Greenwich, CT. He owned a summer home in Waldoboro, ME, from which he pursued his outdoor adventures. River Hill is in Madawaska, ME, the northernmost town in Maine, on the Canadian border.

All signed Provenance: private collection, Dallas Ralph Ludwig Boyer was born in Camden, New Jersey and began his studies at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts under renowned painters William Merritt Chase, Cecilia Beaux, Thomas Anschutz, and Hugh Breckenridge. He won the Cresson scholarship, which enabled him to study art in Spain. During World War I, Boyer worked in Baltimore for the U.S. Marines Camouflage Division. He worked as an illustrator for several publications, including Scribners, Harpers Weekly, and Good Housekeeping. Boyer exhibited his works at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, Bridgeport Museum of Art. He lived in Westport, Connecticut from 1923 until his death in 1952. 3 items
