    • Arturo Bragaglia (1893-1962) - Alessandro Blasetti, 1928
      Dec. 12, 2023

      Arturo Bragaglia (1893-1962) - Alessandro Blasetti, 1928

      Est: €300 - €400

Vintage gelatin silver print applied on original cardboard cm 16,4 x 11,5 (cm 25 x 16,8 cardboard) | 6.5 x 4.5 in. (9.8 x 6.6 in. cardboard) Signed in black ink on the image and signed in pencil on the cardboard recto with Fotoritratti d'arte label on the verso Framed The Bragaglia brothers devoted themselves to the same extent and with the same passion to futurist research and cinema. These two images, so different from each other, clearly illustrate the (apparent) extremes of their interests: how rigorous, classic, linear is the portrait of the director Alessandro Blasetti, who also has something unusual in his gaze, how provocative, 'dirty', disorienting is the one that alludes to the vigour that had to go through the photography of the present for those daring innovators like an electric shock.

ARTURO BRAGAGLIA 1893-1962 Pierrot futurista 1925 Stampa fotografica vintage gelatina sali d’argento. On 14 May 1925, “The Death of Niobe” by Alberto Savinio was performed in Rome, a surreal “mime tragedy” played by dancer Raissa Lork, scenography and costume sketches by Giorgio De Chirico. Raissa, wearing a Pierrot costume was portrayed by the Bragaglia brothers, most probably during this performance. Raissa and De Chirico got married in Paris after some time. This is one of the extremely rare portraits of Raissa, signed by the Bragaglia brothers. We are aware of just one other photodynamic portrait of Raissa where the dancer is wearing the same heavy make-up on her eyebrows and the same black cap; it was certainly shot on the same occasion and is now kept in the Getty Museum.
