  • ELLIS BUCKNER FLORIDA HIGHWAYMEN HIDDEN TREASURE
    Apr. 26, 2025

ELLIS BUCKNER FLORIDA HIGHWAYMEN HIDDEN TREASURE

    Est: $2,000 - $4,000

Buckner, Ellis (1943-1991) Florida Highwaymen Painting. Oil on Upson - signed lower right. Executed in palette knife upon a field of brushwork. Oh, behold the pinnacle of Ellis Buckner's palm-centric legacy—a gem for enthusiasts of "little Buckner" paintings. Partner palms in the distance hold common ground but are quite different. Each have taken form from their roots one straight and forthright and the other restlessly tries to copy its neighboring cabbage palm. But nature has it that a coconut will never be a cabbage. The St. Lucie River meanders obligingly, offering collectors yet another slice of Florida’s palm-filled paradise. One can imagine a well seasoned cabbage palm looking at the two coconuts to the south. John is straight as an arrow and the other is clearly crooked. Board measures 9.25x12.5framed to overall size of 13x17. Condition: Very Fine
