In this work the artist presents a seated woman, with her hands clasped in her lap, attentive and expectant with respect to the viewer's gaze. The attitude, together with the use of a cold colour range dominated by blues and greys, brings us closer to a psychological portrait in which we reflect on the protagonist and her role, although it is true that the gold bracelet, the elegance and sobriety of her dress and hairstyle are elements that indicate a well-to-do position in the society of the time. It is interesting to note the elongation of the figure, which is presented through anatomical dimensions that are far removed from reality. Pedro Bueno trained at the School of Arts and Crafts in Cordoba and at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid. In 1943 he exhibited at the Salón de los Once at the Biosca gallery in Madrid, and that same year he obtained his first official recognition, the third medal at the National Fine Arts Competition. The following year he made his individual debut at the Biosca gallery. In 1950 he took part in the International Exhibition of Contemporary Art in Cairo, and four years later he definitively established himself as an artist by winning the first medal at the National Exhibition of Fine Arts. He was a member of the Royal Academy of Cordoba, and today his work is represented in the Reina Sofia Museum, the Museum of Fine Arts of Cordoba, the Municipal Museum of Madrid, the Camilo José Cela Foundation Collection, that of the Provincial Savings Bank of Cordoba, the Leandro Navarro Collection, the Varela Junquera Collection and those of the Biosca and Balboa galleries, among many other outstanding private collections.

Measurements: 38 x 55 cm; 63 x 78 cm (frame). This apparently simple and idyllic image gathers a thematic of social character, with which the author tries to expose a concrete reality. At first glance one can only appreciate a vibrant landscape made up of bright shades and quick brushstrokes, in which the presence of the train bursts in. This presence represents modernity and progress in a ruralized Spain, the opportunity for contact between villages. However, the train does not invade the whole scene and competes in prominence with the placid landscape, thus indicating an intuited progress that is not yet evident and has not yet materialized in a rural Spain. Pedro Bueno studied at the School of Arts and Crafts in Cordoba and at the School of Fine Arts in Madrid. In 1943 he exhibited in the Salón de los Once at the Biosca Gallery in Madrid, and that same year he obtained his first official recognition, the third medal at the National Fine Arts.
