This is from the first edition published in 1875 in London by L. Reeve & Co. The work is an important illustrated monograph on the daffodil. Burbidge was a horticultural writer and explorer. He entered the gardens of the Royal Horticultural Society at Cheswick as a student in 1868 and the Royal Gardens, Kew. He gained skill as a draughtsman there and proceeded to work for The Garden Magazine & The Floral Magazine. He published many works in this time period including this work The Narcissus for which he drew many of the plates.
