      Original Anita Willets Burnham (1880-1958) Watercolor 1931. Woman Sewing by Window. Professionally framed and matted. In frame 18"x26"x1". Weight 5 pds. Artist, author, lecturer, etcher, impressionist painter in oil and watercolor. Anita Willets Burnham is best remembered as one of the more prominent female artists and respected art instructors working in Chicago during first half of the 20th century. She studied at the Art Institute of Chicago, Art Students League and the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts while also traveling overseas to study with Claudio Castellucho in Paris, France. During her career, Burnham also studied with a number of very important American artists, including Cecilia Beaux (1855 – 1942); William Merritt Chase (1849 – 1916); Frank Vincent DuMond (1865 – 1951); Frederick Freer (1849 – 1908); John Johansen (1876 – 1964); Lawton Parker (1868 – 1954); Ralph Pearson (1883 – 1958) and John Henry Vanderpoel (1857 – 1911). She returned that favor by becoming a respected and long-serving instructor at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
