        A VERY FINE HALLMARKED SILVER PRESENTATION SWORD TO SIR THOMAS FOWELL BUXTON KCMG GCMG, 84cm blade by MAPPIN & WEBB, finely and profusely etched to the tip with scrolling foliage, strapwork, a stand of arms, crowned VR cypher, strung bugle horn, owner's crest and the inscription PRESENTED TO COLNL. SIR T. FOWELL BUXTON BART. BYT THE OFFICERS NON COMMISSIONED OFFICERS AND MEMBERS OF THE 2ND TOWER HAMLETS RIFLE VOLUNTEERS AS A MEMENTO OF THEIR REGARD & ESTEEM ON HIS RETIREMENT FROM THE COMMAND AFTER NEARLY 25 YEARS SERVICE AND SUBSEQUENTLY BECOMING THEIR HONY' COLONEL 9TH FEBY 1884, regulation hallmarked silver Gothic hilt profusely chased with acanthus scrolls and incorporating the owner's crest, wire bound fishskin grip, contained in its hallmarked silver scabbard with finely chased acanthus mounts and scroll engraved to match. Educated at Harrow Sir Thomas served as Captains Commandant 1860, Major 1863, Lt. Col 1864 and Honorary Colonel 1884. Sold with a small folio of research and images.
