      Est: £6,000 - £9,000

ATTRIBUTED TO EDWARD BYNG (c.1676-1753) A set of three Hampton Court Beauties: Princess Anne (later Queen) (1665-1714) holding a sprig of blossom, Diana De Vere, Duchess of St. Albans (d. 1742) standing beside an orange tree and Carey Fraser, The Countess of Peterborough (d. 1709) standing next to the statue of Minerva, all in classical landscapes, oils on canvas, 15 1/4" x 10 1/2", 14 3/4" x 10" and 15 1/4" x 10 1/2" respectively, all in similar antique carved gilt wood and plaster frames (3) Provenance: Purchased from Philip Mould Historical Portraits Possibly owned by Sir Godfrey Kneller at Whitton House, Middlesex. Note: The Hampton Court Beauties were a set of full length portraits by Sir Godfrey Kneller, commissioned by Mary II of England to depict the most prestigious ladies of the Court of William III. It is likely that these three portraits were composed by Byng, the principal assistant in Kneller's studio. George Vertue, the noted art historian and antiquary, documented a set of 12 smaller copies of the original portraits at Whitton House, the home of Kneller. It is possible that these could be part of this series.
