Both signed at lower corner. Sizes approximately 20 ¼ x 27 ¼” and 24 x 18”. Some edgewear, toning at edges. Very good.

      Gibson Byrd (Shawnee, 1923-2002). Oil on canvas painting titled "The Monument" depicting figures walking away from a statue, 1956. Signed and dated along the lower left. With a Milwaukee Journal 75th Anniversary Award slip affixed to the verso. Byrd was a Shawnee painter and teacher at the University of Wisconsin - Madison. He was a contemporary of other prominent artists including Aaron Bohrod, Warrington Colescott, Raymond Gloeckler, Walter Hamady, Harvey Littleton, Alfred Sessler, John Wilde, and Santos Zingale. Provenance (by repute): Acquired by the consignor's mother directly from the artist.
