        English School after or by John Herbert Caddy (British, 1801-1886), c. 1830s-1840s, three watercolors on paper depicting Caribbean locales similar to ones that aforementioned amateur artist and British military officer executed while stationed in West Indies: two views of "Brimstone Hill, St. Kitts" depicting Fort George at promontory of terraced mountain, one larger view and one smaller view with visible pencil gridlines, smallest measures ss: 7" h. x 10 3/4" w.; and "The Pitons, or Sugar-Loaves, St. Lucia", showing dormant volcanoes, no visible signatures, scattered foxing throughout, two larger pieces with several edge tears or creases, all framed behind glass, none examined out of frames. At the close of the War of 1812, the pioneer communities of Hamilton and Dundas vied for Port supremacy. Hamilton, situated on a natural harbor at the west end of Lake Ontario, took the advantage by dredging a canal through a shifting sandbar, making it accessible from the lake. But Pierre Desjardins, a shipping clerk from Paris who had settled in Dundas, raised $15,000, formed his own company and started a rival plan for another canal, this one from Hamilton harbor into the marsh, two miles to the west... Nearly six years and almost $100,000 later the Desjardins Canal opened.” The canal is “considered by historians to be one of the most prized remains of this country’s early maritime ventures...”Estimate: $900–1,200
