This work is registered with the RKD (Rijksbureau voor Kunsthistorische Documentatie) in The Hague under the no. 11794 as a work by Peter Frans Casteels.

    Questo olio su rame, attribuito al pittore fiammingo Peter Frans Casteels, è direttamente tratto dal 'Giuditta e Oloferne' di Peter Paul Rubens e incisa da Galle Cornelis il Vecchio. Un'esemplare di questa incisione è oggi conservata presso la Civica Raccolta delle Stampe Achille Bertarelli, nel Castello Sforzesco di Milano. L'attribuzione al pittore fiammingo è supportata da un'etichetta posta sul retro del dipinto, che la riferisce al fiorista fiammingo. La rara interpretazione di un soggetto così distante dalle corde del Casteels, rendono il dipinto meno 'fresco' e 'vivace' ma più raro nel corpus della produzione del pittore.

Les figures peuvent peut-être être attribuées à Cornelis Schut.

    CASTEELS, PETER FRANS (um 1675 - 1697 oder später in Antwerpen) Blumen in einer Vase. Öl auf Leinwand. Unten links signiert: P. Casteels. 26,6 x 20,8 cm. Provenienz: Privatsammlung, Schweiz. Dieses Blumenstillleben war Fred G. Meijer vom RKD, Den Haag, bislang unbekannt und er bestätigt die Eigenhändigkeit anhand einer Fotografie, wofür wir ihm danken. Dabei hebt er das eher kleine Format als untypisch im Oeuvre des Malers hervor, bezeichnet dabei allerdings die etwas rauere Malschicht als charakteristisch. CASTEELS, PETER FRANS (circa 1675 - 1697 or later in Antwerp) Flowers in a vase. Oil on canvas. Signed lower left: P. Casteels. 26.6 x 20.8 cm. Provenance: Private collection, Switzerland. This still life of flowers was hitherto unknown to Fred G. Meijer of the RKD, The Hague. He has confirmed the authenticity of the work on the basis of a photograph.
