Giovanni Castell (b. 1964), Three Dark Beauties, 1997

    Est: €960 - €1,200

Polaroid on golden foil, mounted on cardboard Germany, 1997 Giovanni Castell (b. 1964) - German photographer Each signed and dated lower right with 'Giovanni Castell 97' Stamped lower left Dimensions, farmed: 41 x 31 cm each Good condition Giovanni Castell's photographic work carries a sensual notion, no matter whether the work depicts flowers or boxers in the midst of a fight; his work 'White Tulip' was sold at Sotheby's in London for a mere 7.500 Euros The three polaroid photographs are by the German artist Giovanni Castell and were produced in 1997. The polaroid process means that it is a direct process with only one result which cannot be duplicated. However the process allows for the artist to experiment with the supporting material, as Castell shows in these works on hand. Each portrait is therefore a unique one of a kind print. The photographs each show a half portrait of a beautiful woman dressed in black adorned with opulent jewellery. The use of golden foil that naturally cracks seems to underline the fleeting aspect of youthful beauty. The three photographs are in good condition. The dimensions framed are 41 x 31 cm and the dimensions of the mounted image are 32.5 x 27.5 cm each. Each work is signed and dated on the lower right with "Giovanni Castell 1997". Giovanni Castell (b. 1964) Giovanni Castell was born in Munich in 1964. He studied fashion design in Milan, Rome and Paris between the years 1984 and 1986. In 1987 he studied philosophy in Munich. He has been part of numerous group exhibitions, alongside works by Gerhard Richter and Georg Baselitz. He also has had numerous solo exhibitions, amongst others in Berlin and Vienna. In 2007 he was awarded the prize of the Art Directors Club (ADC) and in the following year received the prize of the German Design Club.
