    Bernardino Castelli (Arsiè 1750 - Venezia 1810) Ritratto del doge Ludovico Manin Olio su tela 74 x 56,5 cm L'attribuzione al maestro ritrattista veneziano trova confronto nelle opere conservate presso il Museo Correr di Venezia, in particolare nel ritratto del doge Manin in cui si scorgono la stessa identica posa e tecnica pittorica connaturata dalla materia magra, sui modi cinquecenteschi, e mitigati chiaroscuri. Interessante notare come alcuni particolari tra i quali i capelli, il colletto, il velo bianco sotto il corno dogale e i merletti della camicia, che sborsando dalle maniche adornano le mani, impreziosiscano la nostra opera più della tela sopraccitata conservata presso il museo veneziano. Dalla targa posta sulla cornice è plausibile pensare che l'opera sia stata in Inghilterra ove era conservata come opera di Alessandro Longhi. La sua formazione iniziale avvenne a Feltre presso Giovanni D'Antona, e sin da subito dimostrò le sue qualità a villa Franzoja a Colmirano. In seguito fu a Treviso dove emerse come ritrattista grazie al successo dell'effige del vescovo Paolo Francesco Giustiniani, il quale la volle ripetuta per ogni parrocchia della sua diocesi. Dopo un periodo padovano, nel 1782, ebbe la sua consacrazione a Venezia ove entrò a far parte dell'Accademia e raffigurò ufficialmente i dogi Paolo Renier e Ludovico Manin e i papi Pio VI e Pio VII, seguendo, talvolta, i modi dell'altro grande ritrattista del periodo, ovvero Alessandro Longhi. Dopo dieci anni di permanenza in laguna ,si spostò a Bologna e divenne socio dell'Accademia Clementina, nello stesso periodo dipinse alcuni ritratti anche per la nobiltà di Ferrara. Rarissime sono le sue opere oggi ritrovate, tra le poche conosciute vanno ricordati i ritratti conservati al Museo Correr di Venezia. Bernardino Castelli (Arsiè 1750 - Venice 1810) Portrait of Doge Ludovico Manin Oil on canvas 74 x 56,5 cm The attribution to the Venetian master portraitist is compared in the artworks preserved in the Correr Museum in Venice, in particular in the portrait of the Doge Manin in which the identical pose and pictorial technique inherent in the lean material, in 16th-century ways, and mitigated chiaroscuro can be seen. It is interesting to note how some details, such as the hair, the collar, the white veil under the dog's horn and the lace of the shirt that protrudes from the sleeves adorning the hands, embellish our artwork more than the aforementioned canvas preserved in the Venetian museum. From the plaque placed on the frame, it is plausible to think that the artwork was in England where it was preserved as an artwork by Alessandro Longhi.
