Fernando Castro Pacheco fue un artista multifacético que capturó rostros, colores, sentimientos e imágenes que enaltecieron el arte mexicano, en especial la cultura de su tierra natal, Yucatán. Preocupado siempre por la educación, ejerció la docencia durante muchos años en instituciones de gran importancia. En 1941, fundó la Escuela Libre de Artes Plásticas de Mérida, lo que le permitió experimentar al aire libre y bajo esta influencia realizó sus primeras litografías y grabados en madera. Sus pinturas al óleo fueron de sus trabajos más predominantes, al igual que los murales, en los que narró historias nacionales y relatos mayas. A partir de los años 70 en adelante, decidió integrar con mayor dedicación la temática de la figura humana en su trabajo. Bajo el dominio del óleo y formatos pequeños, se inclinó hacia la figura femenina, haciendo gala de los rasgos y características propias de las mujeres del sureste de México, su tierra natal. "Como pintor no me desespero por parecer innovador, quiero explotar mi particular veta con el mejor rendimiento, deseo a toda costa no engañarme con los ojos". Fernando Castro Pacheco. Muchas son las cosas que se podrían decir acerca de los grabados de Castro Pacheco. Es que en ellos se encuentra la fineza del trabajo de un artista que ha sabido valorar, rescatar y experimentar con algunas de las técnicas más generosas que ha dado la historia del arte. Del prolífico deseo de experimentación y preparación del artista surgieron grabados en punta seca, aguafuertes, relieves sobre placas de metal, xilografías y litografías que constituyen parte del mosaico artístico que conforma su obra.
