Emiliano di Cavalcanti Art for Sale and Sold Prices

(b Rio de Janeiro, 6 Sept 1897; d Rio de Janeiro, 26 Oct 1976). Brazilian painter and draughtsman. His first exhibited works were caricatures shown in Rio de Janeiro and São Paulo between 1916 and 1917. In 1921, already deeply involved in the movement for the renewal of Brazilian art, he published a collection of drawings, Fantoches da meia-noite (‘Midnight puppets’), accompanied by a text by Ribeiro Couto in São Paulo. He was one of the leaders of the SEMANA DE ARTE MODERNA in São Paulo in 1922. From 1923 to 1925 he lived in Paris, where he produced numerous book and magazine illustrations as well as articles on European events for Brazilian newspapers. Apart from a second period in Paris from 1935 to 1940 he lived in Rio de Janeiro.
