    AGUSTÍN DE CELIS GUTIÉRREZ (Comillas, Santander, 1932). Untitled. Set of three serigraphs, H.C, P.T and P.A. copies. Signed and justified by hand. Sizes: 50 x 65 cm; 64 x 49 cm; 70 x 50 cm. An outstanding painter and engraver, Agustín de Celis began painting in 1948. In Madrid he graduated and obtained his degree and doctorate in Fine Arts from the Complutense University and later became a lecturer at the Higher Technical School of Architecture. In 1960 he was awarded the Gran Premio de Roma by the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando, and later resided at the Academia de España until 1966. Between 1970 and 1972 he made film documentaries on art. He was awarded the National Painting Prize in 1971. In 1980 he made sketches for the Real Fábrica de Tapices in Madrid thanks to a prize awarded by the Ministry of Culture. In 1992 he was invited by the Sapienza University of Rome to carry out a work on Painting and Architecture. In 1997 he exhibited at the Fanzago Palace in Pescocostanzo, Italy, invited by the Assessorato a la Cultura. In 2000 he was appointed curator of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Villafamés (Castellón). In his beginnings he painted figurative works which evolved towards abstraction, later taking on a certain expressionist and geometrical character. In recent years he has returned to the theme of landscape and seascapes. He took part with his work in the International Biennials of Venice, São Paulo, Paris, Medellín, and in national and international exhibitions: Fundación Marcelino Botín (1986) and "Arte de los 60" (1990), Sala de la Comunidad de Madrid. A lover of his region, Cantabria, the titles and themes of many of his paintings, such as the one we now present, revolve around the sea and his land: "Bajamar", "Nordeste", "Marejada", "Mataleñas", "San Martín", etc. Agustín de Celis enjoys a good reputation both nationally and internationally, his works can be found in important museums and collections such as: Sianoja Collection. Spanish Museum of Contemporary Art in Madrid, Museum of Contemporary Art in Seville, Museum of Contemporary Art in Toledo, Museum of Contemporary Art in Villafamés, Municipal Museum of Fine Arts in Bilbao, Municipal Museum of Fine Arts in Elche, Municipal Museum of Fine Arts in Santander.
