Beatrice Cenci Engraving on Silk

Early 1800's framed copy of a work attributed to Guido Reni, printed on silk. His name and a Petrus Belletini (apparently the engraver of this copy) appears in the margin of the piece. Artwork measures approximately 7 1/2" wide and 9 3/4" high by sight. Aside from two instances of spotting and a visible loose thread, this piece is in very good condition. Not inspected out of frame. Decorative wooden frame measures approximately 14 1/4" wide, 16 3/8" high and 2" deep. Frame is likewise in very good condition, with some accumulated dust and grime in the nooks and crannies. Evgeniy Vuchetich Russian Bronze, USSR 1959 Evgeniy Viktorovich Vuchetich (1908-1974). Russian bronze sculpture titled "Let Us Beat Our Swords into Ploughshares". Depicts a nude male, holding a hammer aloft in one hand, which he uses to beat a sword into a ploughshare. This is a 1959 casting, Made in the USSR and created by the artist for use as gifts to dignitaries. Measures 10" high, 7.5" wide, 3.5" deep. The sides with Cyrillic script, the artist's signature, Made in USSR and a serial number. HISTORY NOTE: The original, much larger bronze sculpture by Vuchetich was presented to the United Nations on December 4th, 1959 by the Government of the USSR. The sculpture is meant to symbolize man's desire to put an end to war, and to convert the means of destruction into creative tools for the benefit of mankind. Seit dem Studium an der Hochschule der Künste in Berlin widmet sich der Schweizer Fotograf und Videokünstler der Darstellung von Menschen im öffentlichen Raum der Großstadt. Aus der Menschenmenge am New Yorker Astor Place isoliert er einzelne Personen, zoomt sie mit der Kamera heran und hält sie in lebensgroßen Porträts fest. So hebt Streuli die Distanz der Anonymität auf und ermöglicht dem Betrachter eine virtuell assoziative Begegnung. Fragen wie die nach sozialem Status, dem Lebensstil und der Beziehung zwischen dem Mann und der Frau tauchen unvermittelt auf. Streulis Fotografien fungieren als Spiegel der kulturellen Vielfalt in der Metropole New York, in der die Aspekte der Herkunft und ethnischen Identität nebensächlich sind und sich stattdessen zu einem Abbild der globalen Gesellschaft fügen.

Beat Streuli (b. 1957) The Swiss photographer, video and installation artist Beat Streuli was born in Altdorf in 1957. He studied at the schools of Design in Basel and Zurich, and eventually at the Hochschule der Künste in Berlin. His favorite subject is the human being, depicted in urban public spaces. He usually features young pedestrians in a kind of snapshot, focusing on the facial expressions. His video works usually run on three monitors simultaneously; his slide and digital projects are often shown on six or more projectors. Streuli currently lives in Zurich and Brussels.
