        AGUSTÍ CENTELLES I OSSÓ (Valencia, 1909 - Barcelona, 1985). "Passage of the Spanish Civil War", 1960s. Photograph. Signed in biros in the lower right-hand corner. With the author's stamp on the back. Provenance: Private Collection Antonio Orzaez (1933-2021). Size: 30 x 40 cm; 52 x 52 cm (frame). Considered one of the initiators of photojournalism in Spain, Centelles trained in the photographic workshop of Ramón Baños, and later worked as an assistant to Josep Badosa. He became independent in 1934, and began working with newspapers such as "La Publicitat", "Diari de Barcelona", "Última Hora" and "La Vanguardia". At the beginning of the Civil War, he was assigned to the Aragon front, where he reported on the troops at the front. He also collaborated with the Propaganda Commissariat of the Generalitat de Catalunya, and was in charge of the archive of the Catalan army in Barcelona. In 1939 he went into self-exile in France, taking with him the negatives of the images he considered most relevant. Franco's troops requisitioned the rest of the negatives that were still in his home, which were subsequently transferred to the Salamanca Archive. In 1984, the Ministry of Culture awarded him the National Photography Prize.
