      A W Chesher, English Naive School 1895-1972- Workmen with steam tractor engines; oil on board, a pair, both signed, each bearing labels for the Portal Gallery, London, both inscribed and dated 1964, 43x60cm, each, (2) Note: A W Chesher was born in Bedfordshire. He started life as a farmer before losing the sight in one eye when a gun backfired and then catching his arm in a threasing machine. No longer being able to work he spent the rest of his life painting the disappearing rural way of life.
