      • Master of the Greenville Tondo (active in Tuscany and Umbria at the end of the fifteenth century - beginning of the sixteenth) - Madonna with Child, Saint John the Baptist and old Monk
        Nov. 29, 2023

Master of the Greenville Tondo (active in Tuscany and Umbria at the end of the fifteenth century - beginning of the sixteenth) - Madonna with Child, Saint John the Baptist and old Monk

        Est: €50,000 - €80,000

oil on board, in round diameter 84 cm Photographic references Fototeca Zeri, n. 26063 PROVENANCE Private collection since 1960 LITERATURE F. Todini, La Pittura Umbra.

      • MASTER OF THE LEGEND OF SAINT URSULA - Virgin with Child
        Oct. 26, 2021

MASTER OF THE LEGEND OF SAINT URSULA - Virgin with Child

        Est: €10,000 - €15,000

MASTER OF THE LEGEND OF SAINT URSULA Active in Bruges around 1470 - 1500 Madonna and Child Oil on panel Size 35 x 25 cm On a background golden, quite altered by the passage of time, the Virgin in bust has been arranged in a very close-up, presenting the naked Child. He watches his mother, while he picks up a small apple with his left hand resting on his knees. The Master of the legend of Santa Úrsula has a taste for shadows on the temples, eyelids, and profile of the chin that will differentiate him from the rest of contemporary masters. This fragment must have suffered a significant cut on both sides that has altered the background. In all the preserved scenes, the pyramidal pattern of the Virgin, accentuated by the blue cloak covering her hair and falling from the top of the head on both sides of the shoulders, also included the arms showing the elbows, which here have probably disappeared , as a result of separating the panel from its original frame, as it was customary to work in the last quarter of the 15th century, when this work is dated. Possibly, originally, the work was part of a devotional diptych, due to the gesture that the Child presents and the preserved examples of the production of this master with whom the work is linked. This teacher usually works in small formats, and his skill is not only appreciated in the execution of the qualities, as is still seen in the damascene work of the Virgin's tunic, but also in the transparencies of the fleshiness and shine of the hair. The gold damask fabrics with a pineapple pattern was a constant in his production, and he uses it with variations in many of his works, but without overwhelming the scene. There is no more news about the oldest provenance of this painting, partly because it was intervened in its format, possibly already in the 20th century, and because it is a work with a very marked devotional character that makes it difficult its follow-up for its small dimensions.
