James Christensen Art for Sale at Auction

Illustrator, b. 1942 -

James Christeen was born in 1942 and he’s been an artist nearly that long. He grew up in Culver City, California and then attended UCLA and BYU for art before enjoying a 20 year career as an art educator. His paintings are dripping in fantasy and inspired by myths, fables, and his own imagination. Many of them carry a philosophical message, which he usually leaves up to the viewer to interpret.

Over the years, James has received a lot of critical acclaim. He has repeatedly won the Chelsey Award from the World Science Fiction and Fantasy artists, has been named to the Outstanding American Illustrators and American Illustration Annual lists, and was featured on the cover of “Leading Edge” magazine. Additionally, he appeared on an episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, where he did a specially commissioned painting for a family.

Today, he lives in Orem, Utah where he co-chairs the Mormon Arts Foundation with his wife Carol, guest lectures at BYU on a regular basis, and continues to paint his unique creations. Look for the trademark floating fish in many of his paintings!
