Alexandros Christofis or Alexandros Hristofis (1882-1953) was a Greek painter.

He was born in Piraeus in 1882. He attended the School of Great Arts where he excelled with the studend Nikiforos Lytras. He later went to Naples, where he attended the Institute of Great Arts. From his journey until his death, he presented paintings with popular and teamwork positions.

From 1925, he was a professor of the technical school. In his work, it depicts mainly its scenes of everyday life of its people either in outdoors or in the city and from the life of the Greek sailors at its ports in Piraeus. Pictures are founded also in Germany.

His technique in which austerely judges academically with intense personal tone.

      oil on hardboard signed lower left 32.5 x 48.5 cm Provenance private collection, Athens Alexandros Christofis studied at The School of Fine Arts, Athens from 1897 till 1903 under Nikiforos Lytras and Georgios Roilos. In 1903 he was awarded the Averoff Prize. Later, between 1907 and 1911 he continued his studies at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Naples at the studio of V. Volpe. His work was in keeping with the academic tradition. His subject matter includes landscape, seascape, portrait, still life and mythological compositions. He gained the acceptance and admiration both of art critics and art lovers of his period. From 1937 onwards, he held a teaching position in secondary education. Chistofis held a number of solo exhibitions in Athens and participated in a number of prestigious group exhibitions such as the 1934 Venice Biennale and the 1938, 1939, 1940, 1948, 1952, 1957 PanHellenic Exhibitions. His work is found in many public and private collections, notably that of: The National Gallery, Athens; The Athens Municipal Gallery; The Koutlides collection and The National Bank of Greece collection.
