Dusan Ciran Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1929 -

Dušan Ciran was born in Brezova, Slovakia, in 1929. From a very early age, he showed an interest and talent for music, drawing and painting. After World War II, he immigrated to the United States and settled in Chicago where he further refined his craft at North Park College, Chicago Academy, American Academy and The Palette and Chisel Academy of Fine Arts.

His artistry exemplifies the style and timeless quality of the Old World Masters, like Monet, Renoir, Pissaro and others. His work is widely exhibited in one-man and group shows, such as those held by the Palette and Chisel. In 1986, he won the coveted Diamond Medal Award. Visitors to his studio can view a large, masterful collection of oils, ranging from striking Chicago cityscapes to pastoral scenes of the Indiana Dunes, picturesque Illinois prairies and the beauty of his native land.

He worked for over 30 years side by side with Charles Vickery, a world renowned marine artist. Together they founded the Oil Painters of America and Chicago Windy City Artists. He also served as past president of the Regent Art League. He is a frequent guest lecturer, offering demonstrations and slide presentations of his techniques to art clubs and interested groups throughout Chicago and the Midwest. His own studio serves as a gathering place for artists he instructs, as well as for those who congregate to paint the landscape. In addition to his visual repertoire, he is an accomplished violinist and composer of numerous popular ethnic songs.
