Iconic American illustrator and artist Benton Henderson Clark was born in 1895 in Coshocton, Ohio. Clark studied under Arthur Woelfle before attending the National Academy of Design and the Art Institute of Chicago. His first job was in the MGM art department in California, after which he worked for advertising studios in Chicago. Clark’s illustrations often graced the covers of many popular magazines including The Saturday Evening Post, Liberty, Good Housekeeping, and McCall’s.

Having grown up around his father’s harness shop, he put his knowledge of horses to use creating Benton Henderson Clark paintings and artwork for sale. Heavily influenced by artists like Remington, Hoffman, and Dunn, Clark’s most famous works contributed to the Western genre. Artist Benton Henderson Clark died at the age of 69.
