    Berthold Clauss Altona 1882 - Quickborn 1969 Coffee Party, Oil/canvas, 81 x 120 cm, lo. ri. sign. Clauss, on the reverse fragment of a label of the Große Berliner Kunstausstellung, unframed., German artist. After being trained as lithographer C. studied 1904/05 at the Altona arts a. crafts school, 1905-10 at the Berlin academy under F. Kallmorgen a. A. Hertel. With a scholarship he could travel the Netherlands, Belgium a. Paris. In 1920 he settled in Altona a. became teacher at the local arts a. crafts school. After his Hamburg studio had been destroyed in 1944 he moved to Quickborn. He also worked as sculptor a. ceramicist.
