    Marshall Clifton (1903-1975) The Old Stone Bridge 1953 Watercolour Signed & dated lower right 36.5 x 44 cm, 53.5 x 64 cm framed LITERATURE: Clifton planned to study engineering at UWA, but began a cadetship in architecture at the Public Works Department, Perth & joined the parctice of George Herbert Parry. He left for England in 1930 joining the firm of E Wincent Harris & working on the Mancester Central Library & Leeds Civic Hall, attending classes at the RA School of architecture in 1931. He returned to Perth in 1932. He was a self taught watercolourist who belonged to a generation of architect where the ability to draw & knowledge of art history & architecture was essential to an architect's training.
