American artist John Ford Clymer was born in Ellensberg, Washington in 1907. His formal art education took place at Vancouver British Columbia School of Art and Ontario College of Art. Oil painter Clymer began painting scenes of the historical Old West, especially Native American culture, in the early 60s using sketches and photos as references.

Artist John Ford Clymer undertook illustrations for Esquire, Cosmopolitan, Redbook, and The Saturday Evening Post. He was also the primary illustrator for the book The Yearling.
