Original Vintage Italian Poster for Sparkling Wine - Dionis by Codognato

Arlecchino (Harelquin), the youngest characters of the Commedia dell'Arte is up to his usual tricks in this c1920 advertisement commissioned by the Societa Italiana Vini Superiori (Italian Society of Superior Wines) for the Dionis brand of sparkling white wine, or Spumante as it is known in Italian. Plinio Codognato (1878-1940) is revered as one of the most important Italian graphic artists of the Twentieth Century. Tall praise, to be sure, but it is well deserved. Codognato created groundbreaking visuals for everything from auto-related brands like Fiat and Pirelli to Campari and Cinzano. He represented many of the most important Italian products. This is an original vintage poster; it is not an reproduction. It is in excellent condition and has been printed on cardboard for display in bars and restaurants. It will be shipped flat. An Italian Art Nouveau style advertising lithograph art poster designed by Italian artist Plinio Codognato (1872-1950). Titled, "Dionis Gran Spumante," produced circa 1920. A colorful French language figural work advertising for an Italian spumante sparkling wine, sponsored by the Italian Wine Commission. Depicting a masked Pierrot figure (Italian: Arlecchino) offering up a glass full of delicious bubbly goodness. Artist signed in the plate to upper right CODOGNATO. Italian language printing details to upper left edge. Presented under glass with a black mat border in a colorful yellow metal gallery frame. Sight size measures approximately 18.25" x 12.65". A charming child pours out some of the oil from a large cask onto a bright salad. While many of us associate olive oil with cooking, excellent quality extra-virgin olive oil is traditionally used by Italians as a garnish on raw dishes such as salads - as shown here- as well as a finishing touch on already cooked meals. Fratelli Carli olive oil is the star of this meal, for sure! Fratelli Carli was founded in 1911 in Oneglia, a town in the Liguria region of Italy. It is currently in its fourth generation of ownership and still known as an award-winning brand.
