      Lilian Colbourn (1897-1967) ▴ Lilian Colbourn (1897-1967) 'Fisherman' signed 'COLBOURN' l.l., oil on canvas 61 x 50.5cm Colbourn worked from expressionistic and powerful drawings, translating her observations of real life in the North Yorkshire fishing village of Staithes into dramatic and energetic paintings. Here she depicts a fisherman at one with the elements, just distinguishable from the greens and browns of the surrounding sea. Colbourn exhibited at the Walker Gallery, Liverpool from the 1930s and also at the Paris Salon in 1947. Condition Report: Framed size: 78 x 67cm. Appears to be in good order, canvas mounted onto a board so not possible to view verso, unexamined under uv light, please contact the department for a full report.
